Inside the
feline brain.

The only numerical calculation performed using a feline brain

The experimental procedure

  1. The biological input

    Dennis Eats

Dennis decides when to visit his feeder. His appetite is the source of unpredictability; no button can tell the feline brain what to do.

  2. The observation

    The feeder records a visit.

Each visit creates a timestamped event in the feeder’s database. The script collects the saved visit timestamps and puts them in order.

  3. The numerical output

    A number emerges.

The ordered timestamps run through SHA-256 to create a fingerprint. The script converts that fingerprint into a number from 0 to 4,294,967,295.

Meet the
principal investigator.

Dennis provides the appetite. The apparatus does the arithmetic. All important decisions remain under feline control.
